More than a tracker — why knowing where your vehicles are isn't enough
This weekend, Finland's transport industry gathers at the Power Truck Show in Härmä. We won't be walking the aisles this year — but the question we heard there more than once last year deserves a proper answer: “We already have GPS in our vehicles. What more do we need?”
Location answers the wrong question
A tracker tells you where a vehicle is. That's useful — but it answers the easiest question in your business. The questions that actually run your day sound different: Who's driving it right now? What job is it on? Will it make the next customer in time, or should the job go to another vehicle? And what's lined up for tomorrow?
A dot on a map answers none of that. A system where vehicles, drivers, jobs and workdays are connected does.
The difference between following and running the business
TROLLE was born inside companies that haul, dig, service and rent out equipment — often all at once. That's why vehicles are never an island in the system. The same view that shows where a vehicle is also shows:
- The job. What the vehicle is doing there, for which customer, and what comes next.
- The driver and the workday. Who's driving, what the day looks like, hours and time entries — linked straight to the job, ready for payroll and invoicing.
- The planning. Available vehicles and drivers at a glance. Return loads planned instead of driven empty. The wrong vehicle on the wrong job caught before it costs anything.
- The things that happen by themselves. Sensors and automation create work orders without a phone call: a container reports it's full, a machine that it needs service, a customer files a fault report by scanning a QR code.
What it means in practice
Less empty driving, fewer unnecessary kilometres, less waiting on site — not because anyone drives “better”, but because the whole picture is visible before decisions are made. Happier customers, because the answer to “when will you be here?” lives in the same view as everything else. And a Monday that's already planned when the week begins.
See for yourself
